Where the Wild Things Are

"And now," cried Krista, "let the wild rumpus start!"

Okay so weekends around here are CRAZY!

Particularly ones that start out in the Emergency Room for what one supposes to be a broken finger and four and half hours later learns to be a sprain.  Can someone tell me where I can buy an X-ray machine?  It would be very practical in a house with one Sporty Spice and two Evil Knievels.

Elliot was very upset to learn that he could no longer make the "party on" hand signal. I told him it was probably for the best anyway. Yikes!  He must get his sense of cool from Mr. Level Headed.

But weekends with house guests are even CRAZIER!

Especially if one of your house guests is this "Wild Thing":

This is Hilary, my cohort in shenanigans, and she came up this weekend for the Earth Spirit Horse Rescue fundraiser held at the Phoenix Dinner Theatre on Saturday night.  Her longtime boyfriend and fellow animal lover, Korey, graciously volunteered to design the stable for this wonderful non-profit organization.  Earth Spirit Horse Rescue is a rehabilitation centre for abused or neglected horses, which unbeknownst to me, are the third most abused animals in New Brunswick. Check out their website if you would like to learn more or if you happen to have a pile of money lying around that you really have no use for:
http://www.earthspirithorserescue.com/

I am intrigued with this organization because once the horses are rehabilitated, they then can be adopted out into the community, AND I do believe that a horse is mandatory for all farms (not to mention the "Wee Websters" are a bit horse crazy!)

Don't you love the ski helmet?

Oh, I can hear the groans of Mr. Level-Headed now.  He just LOVES when "The Vision" becomes even grander! Here a neigh, there a neigh, everywhere a neigh, neigh . . .

Anyhoo, back to the wild weekend. So, you may be asking yourself just how much shenanigans one librarian and one housewife can truly get into, but let me tell you,

add a few games:

and these two knuckleheads:

The youngest of the Skov clan, John and Emmy

and you've got one, wild and crazy party on your hands:

they roared their terrible laughs and teased their gullible siblings and told their immature jokes and showed their wretched childishness

till Papa Skov said "Enough!"

but the wild things cried, "Oh please don't make us go -
we promise to behave - we love you so!"

and Papa Skov said, "No!"

so the Wild Things climbed into their minivan and waved good-bye

and ferried back over the river
and in and out of weeks
and through a day
and into the night of their very own home

tee hee!

Disclaimer: No wild things were actually kicked out of the family homestead on this evening, but I am sure Papa Skov was thinking about it.
Also, if Maurice Sendak happens to be reading this blog, I apologise for my blatant thievery (not to mention my poor adaptation).

Oh, and if you are wondering what Papa Skov looks like, just stretch this guy up and add lots of white hair:

He even stands like "the old man"!!
(Avery's words not mine)

There truly is no better way to spend a weekend than with your family!

  1. I just read your first three posts. Your blog is wonderful! You are a natural.

Elliot may not be able to do the "party on" sign any more, but his "live long and prosper" sign is perfect! ;)
